NYC is where I be was

Quick recap of the weekend: Friday was spent wrapped in a blanket as CT was hit by a snowstorm. I didn’t think it was that bad of a storm, but it was enough for CT to close schools for the day and for my test to get canceled because the testing center employees did not want to brave the weather. We got around 8 inches. It was nice to have snow. CT has been pretty bare so far this year; this has been the first real snowfall that has stuck around on the ground.

Saturday was absolutely beautiful. I woke up at an early 12 pm to the sun bouncing off of all the newly fallen snow. Incredible. I made myself breakfast/brunch (first time in a very long time) and watched the end of “Lean On Me.” Then it was off to do some shopping. Oh man was that fun. I was intent on getting most of my Christmas shopping done (all the non-online stuff), but ended up shopping of me as well. It was completely relaxing, but I was a little ticked off that one of the clerks thought I was still in college (or maybe even high school.) Long story short, she figured out that my parents live in Minnesota and got very confused when she tried to figure out why I was in CT. I took some explaining for her to realize that I don’t live with my parents and that I have a job, etc.

Shopping took much longer than expected so I nixed plans to head to NYC for the rest of the day. I just spent the night at home, taking care of some random things. It’s been a while since I’ve been in CT for the weekend so it was nice to slow things down a little.

Sunday morning was not my idea of fun. I had to make a lunch date with Barb and Gail (two wonderful ladies I used to work for at Williams) in NYC along with a bunch of other Williams peoples. That meant I got up at 7:30 am so that I could make it to New Haven and catch the 9:30 to NYC. I tried to sleep on the train, but it was packed with people. Instead of going to Grand Central, I got off at 125th in Harlem and walked to Dani’s new apartment. It was a lot better than I expected. She just moved in last week so it was still a wreck with boxes and things strewn about, but it was a cool apartment and the area around it was much better than I had originally anticipated.

We eventually made it to Times Square to meet everyone for lunch. Craziness ensued. I hadn’t seen all those people, in the same place at the same time, in so long; I think I was just drunk off of happiness because I was acting so crazy throughout lunch. (The wine and the martini also helped. I had them make the martini extra dirty in honor of Nate. We missed you!)

After lunch I went with Elena and CJ to a bar where we consumed some more bear (thanks to Williams College as was the lunch) and watched football. I’m not a huge sports nut, but it was fun just sitting around, drinking, and watching football especially with Elena who almost ripped a couple people apart at the bar.

We eventually parted ways and I met up with Margo over at Union Square. We walked around, grabbed a pitcher and watched some more football and then got some Thai for dinner. Korey, unfortunately, didn’t get to join us. We eventually hit up another bar, had some fun reminiscing and came to some interesting revelations, and called and harassed Kee Won. At this point I was a little drunk and had loss track of time. Thankfully Dani called me, wondering if I was every coming back to her apartment to grab my stuff. I quickly realized it was almost 11 and I needed to catch a train back CT. Luckily I was able to make it back to Dani’s and reach the Harlem station to catch the 11:30 back to New Haven. I finally got back home around 3 am, but it was a good time in NYC. I’ll be back again next weekend for some holiday festivities!
