Why Can't Actors Act?

I've been a little underwhelmed so far with the VMAs. Green Day had a really good opening performance and then (P) Diddy made his grand entrance which I was actually excited for. It started off as a nice visidually, with Diddy shouting his usual adlibs, almost invoking a Cirque du Soleil feel, and then it kind of just stopped. A climax to nothing. Ludacris' performance was underwhelming as well, proving that rappers can really really suck live.

Now to my point about actors. I'm always interested in how people plan award shows. How do they decide who present which awards? Like when you have the Backstreet Boys present the best rap video award to Outakst...are the show's producers trying to make awkward moments? And when you have actors present, you'd think they could actually make their presentations believable, but they always turn out cornballish, underwhelming, and always make the actors look less hip. Anyways, Green Day just won for best rock video. Though I like Green Day, too many people are kissing their asses because My Chemical Romance and The Killers definitely had better videos.

Plus, every shot that cuts away to a famous person in the audience has shown a lot of uninterested or angry faces...
