In the words of Bic Runga, "Where Do I Get Some Sleep?"

The worst thing about insomnia is you don't get sleep (obviously.) But when you have to be up in four hours to put in another long day of work which has about a 90% of being very monotonous, it can be really painful. Sadly, since I've been hit with insomnia pretty much since I started work in July, it's become a normal part of my routine. It was actually kind of nice, back in July, when my roommate wasn't here yet because when I couldn't fall asleep, I'd walk around the apartment, make noise, whatever. But now that Ryan is here, it doesn't seem as acceptable to be walking around the apartment and making noise at 2:30 in the morning. So what is one to do? Well I guess there is one good thing about my insomnia and being cooped up in my room (or at least the only positive thing I could come up with to ease my mind): I watch movies that I would normally never watch and it gives me a reason to put on my headphones (some music just sounds better through headphones) and go through all the new music that I downloaded. I probably download like 1 GB of music every 3-4 days which is a lot of music, and I don't get a whole lot of time to actually go through it all and pick out what I like and discover some of those hidden gems. Anyways, tonight's movie of choice was "Phone Booth." This movie came out (or at least was supposed to) back when the wave of sniper shootings was going on in Maryland. Because of those incidents and the similarities to the movie, "Phone Booth's" release date was pushed back and that pretty much sealed its fate. Honestly, its not that bad of a movie and was pretty entertaining, but I'll admit, I was already a little jumpy because I was watching Nip/Tuck before that which is becoming one of my new favorite shows. I'm probably going to lose some sleep this week because I just downloaded Seasons 1 & 2 of Monk as well.

On the music side, two songs that I recently downloaded caught my ear and I thought I'd share:

Andrew Bird- "Skin Is, My" (download here)

-I don't know a lot about Andrew Bird except that he used to be a part of the Squirrel Nut Zippers. This song really isn't anything like what you'd expect from the Squirrel Nut Zippers. It's a lush song full of guitars and strings that is definitely worth the listen.

Q-Tip (Kamaal The Abstract)- "Barely In Love" (download here)

-This song is from Q-Tip's CD "Kamaal The Abstract," which was supposed to be released in 2002 but has never been released. It's a nice song. I think Q raps for maybe 4 bars. He mostly just sings along to a jazzy/rock melody. Maybe it'll the full album will be released some day.
