Ice Skating
This past weekend I went ice skating for the first time. I went with Dani, Anjya, and Anjya's boyfriend; we skated in Central Park, near 110 St. Even though I grew up in Minnesota, I never learned to skate. I remember back in elementary school, during the winter time, my school would create a makeshift skating rink. For gym class, we had to go out and skate. If you didn't know how to skate, you could just slide around on your boots (ala broomball). Since I didn't know how to skate, I didn't own any skates. That cycle perpetuated itself and thus, I never learned how to skate. But since there are a decent number of skating rinks here in the city, I was determined that I would finally try ice skating.
I was a little worried at first since most people said it was going to be hard and that I was going to fall...a lot, but in reality, I wasn't that bad. I only fell twice and both of those were minor falls that I was able to gracefully recover from. Other than that, I actually got better and even was able to pick up speed while skating. I was still getting schooled by a lot of little kids, but it was still a good time.
