Wu-Tang Clan @ Webster Hall

Wu-Tang on stage at Webster Hall, NYC

Kyle and I went to see the Wu-Tang Clan perform at Webster Hall tonight. I was really excited to see them since I've never seen them in concert perform. I had heard that they usually have some really energetic live shows so I had high expectations and the didn't disappoint. The venue was packed when we showed up, but luckily Kyle's good at pushing through a crowd. Plus, she's a gidl so people don't get as mad at her. The crowd was filled with mostly serious Wu-Tang fans, which was a little scary since they were almost too intense about their love for the group.

Ghostface and Masta Killa

The Wu performed mostly classic cuts from their earlier albums and also some of each members' solo material. They brought a couple special guests as well. My favorite, by far, was Redman who tore the stage apart with Method Man. Their chemistry as a duo is undeniable. It helped that both were extremely excited to be there and looked like they were having a great time on stage. At one point, they both started stage diving. Redman made the mistake of jumping directly onto Kyle, who was one of the shortest people in the crowd. We had to struggle to keep from having him hit the ground.

All love between Redman and Method Man

The funniest part of the concert was when RZA and Ghostface asked the finest girls in the building to come to the stage. Man, was that a mistake. I guess the girls weren't listening because the most busted girls in the place were the ones to take to the stage. Only one of the girls looked "decent," but the others were a hot mess. One of them looked like she was half pregnant and she was drunk and trying to dance sexily. Gross. Another girl did the splits on stage, ripping her pants down the middle. She left the stage, only to come back with a towel around her waist. She then proceeded to do cartwheels and whatnot and revealed to everyone that she wasn't wearing underwear underneath her ripped jeans. It was pretty terrible. The Wu were noticeably disappointed as well and told the girls after a song or two that they had to clear the stage. When they wouldn't some people start chucking water at them.

RZA and Killah Priest

Overall, it was still a fun concert. The Wu delivered with the energy and like I said, they looked like they were having a lot of fun and were glad to be together on stage. That kind of comradery is sometimes missing in hip-hop shows so it was refreshing to see.
