NYC's Da City: Clipse Concert (Part II)
So after the Raccoon Lodge (see previous NYC post), we made it to the Knitting Factory for the Clipse concert. When Kerel and I got there, the place was already packed, but we pushed our way to the front of the stage and got lit. Then the place went crazy! Clipse and the Re-Up Gang tore up the stage and the energy in the room was ridiculous.
Here are a couple of pictures from the show (click on to enlarge). I've edited them a little, but that IS me. I'm gonna e-mail one of the photographers from The Fader, Paul, who I was harassing at the concert. He took a picture of me and Kerel and one point so hopefully he can send it my way. To see the unedited pictures (i.e. the ones I didn't just deface), visit The Fader Blog.
As I said, the concert was crazy. I haven't been to a concert in a long time and this was a good reintroduction. What was even crazier was that the Clipse haven't released any official material in years (just mixtapes) and the crowd (me included) knew every word that they rapped.
After the show, Kerel asked me if I wanted to go back stage. Of course I wanted to, but I didn't think we'd actually get back stage, but Kerel just knocked on the backstage door. Someone opened it and without saying anything, he just kept walking and there we were, backstage, chilling with the Clipse and DJ Clinton Sparks. It was pretty sick...Kerel and I chatted with Clinton Sparks (Kerel even gave him his business card). I also talked with Pusha T from the Clipse for a while. They were also shooting a street DVD while we were back there and I think Kerel and I got on tape in the background and at one point when I was talking to Clinton Sparks.
The best part of the whole concert experience, which I didn't find out afterwards, was when Clinton Sparks and Pusha T were being interviewed on tape, Kerel was behind the camera man, pissing in the corner!
After the show, Kerel and I walked across town to Max Fish. Place was fun, but a little to hipster-ish for me. I finally went back to Dani's in Harlem to crash around 4:30 am.
