Oh What A Weekend

This past weekend was probably one of the best I've had since moving to New York. The weather was gorgeous, with clear blue skies and temperatures in the 70's and 80's. I spent most of the weekend outdoors, enjoying the sun and just hanging out with people.

On Friday, after a grueling 8-hour stint sitting at a law office as a favor for one of my counterparts in CT, I got out of work and went for a run in Central Park. I haven't run in the park since January when we had a freak day of 70 degree weather, so it was nice to be able to get back out there. I saw some of the usual suspects at the Reservoir where I usually run, including the old man who always walks around the park with his Olympic gold medal around his neck. One of these days I'm going to have to stop and hear his story.

After running, I had dinner with Korey and Margo down in the Village and then we met up with Arnaub, who was visiting for the weekend. We ended up at a taco stand/bar called the Cosmic Cantina. At first, I was a little hesitant because the place just seemed so ridiculous and kitschy. The front of the place is a taco/burrito stand, with the back being a run down bar with graffiti on the walls that is lit by black lights. The place is also known for selling beer in gallons. However, the party quickly picked up and we eventually got the whole place to play drinking games. I pretty much dominated at quarters and was able to avoid absolutely drunkenness and another subway incident so score one for me!

On Saturday, I got up early and ran again in the Park. After getting brunch with Korey, Margo, and Arnaub, we headed back to Central Park to lay out on the Great Lawn and play frisbee and football. The Park was amazing Saturday. It was packed with people and a lot of characters which included the crew of Jewish-Israeli nationals that we played football with, Sasha, the 11-year-old Parisian who was one of the funniest kids I've ever met, the yuppies who threatened to break our frisbee in half, and the softball players who started picking fights with everyone and their mother. They almost got into it with the yuppies which would have made my day.

On Sunday, Kyle and I finally made it down to the Shake Shack where we completely devoured our double shack burgers and shakes. The weather was so nice that we walked all the way back up to the UES, cutting through the Park and the zoo and getting a glimpse of the Greek Day Parade. It was one of the most relaxing weekends I've had, but I was so tired afterwards and completely exhausted from so much sun. Hopefully the weather is just as nice next weekend.
